Age of Conan - Image 1

After having its subscriber base shoot up to as much as 700,000 a few months after release, the popular massively multiplayer online RPG Age of Conan isn't as massively multiplayer anymore. According to an estimate by E24, Age of Conan has no more than 100,000 subscribers left.

Age of Conan publisher Funcom posted an operating loss of US$ 23.3 million in their financial report for Q4, caused by a depreciation of US$ 22.8 million due to an underpeforming Age of Conan. Following the resignation of Funcom co-founder Gaute Godager who was dissatisfied with the MMORPG, Funcom announced that they'll be closing more than half of its servers, bringing the count from 49 down to just 18. This time, it's chief financial officer Olav Sandnes' turn to throw in the towel.

Age of Conan was the third best selling PC game in 2009, behind only World of Warcraft and Spore.
